Sam Allardyce closing in becoming Everton manager after meeting with owner Farhad Moshiri
Former England boss met face-to-face with Goodison supremo in London after admitting he is interested in taking over struggling side
SAM ALLARDYCE is favourite to be the next Everton manager after a face-to-face meeting with Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri, according to reports.
Former England boss Allardyce met with the Blues supremo in London after saying he is interested in taking the role, report the Daily Mail.
It is believed Allardyce, who has been out of football since leaving Crystal Palace in the summer, wants ex-Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare in as his assistant.
Moshiri, who owns a 49.9 per cent stake in Everton, reportedly had his representatives contact Allardyce's people at the beginning of last week to judge his interest in the role.
And there has also been dialogue between Steve Walsh, the Blues' director of football, and Allardyce's people over backroom staff appointments.
Moshiri is leading the recruitment process to find the man to replace interim chief David Unsworth.

If he plumps for Allardyce then it is believed Big Sam would also want Martyn Margetson as his goalkeeping coach.
However, talkSPORT presenter Jim White tweeted a photo this morning claiming Moshiri had told him under-fire Unsworth "embodies the spirit" of Everton.

White also said Moshiri told him Unsworth is on the shortlist to become full-time boss.
Allegations made by BBC Panorama and the leaked Paradise Papers suggest 49 per cent major shareholder Moshiri broke Premier League rules with his 2016 buyout of the club.
Unsworth oversaw yesterday's miraculous comeback against Watford.
Goals from Oumar Niasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and an injury-time penalty from Leighton Baines saw them snatch three points after being two goals down.
