SPORTSWEAR giants New Balance have vowed to 'vigorously defend itself' as Marouane Fellaini sues them for £2.1million.

The Manchester United midfielder has claimed the boots caused him "loss of enjoyment, inconvenience and impact on performance" as well as "considerable damage" to his feet.

SunSport reported the news on Sunday, where the 29-year-old filed litigation at London's High Court.

The Belgian international also claimed that the boots were "poor quality" and had to be “steamed and stretched” by the Red Devils kitman before he could wear them.

Fellaini signed a four-year boot deal in 2012 when he was with Everton, and is seeking damages after they walked away from a new £600,000-a-year contract.

But in a statement provided to ESPN, New Balance have revealed they are confident they have acted appropriately.

They said: "Although we cannot comment on pending litigation, New Balance can confirm that the company plans to vigorously defend itself and its longstanding record of manufacturing excellence and surpassing the needs of athletes around the world.

"New Balance is confident that it has acted appropriately and is grateful for the services historically provided by Mr. Fellaini."
