Jose Mourinho set for war with Manchester United board over transfer funds

JOSE MOURINHO is heading for a clash with the Manchester United board over further backing in the transfer market.

Mourinho has spent £300million in less than 18 months — but still wants more to strengthen his squad as they fight on four fronts.

The Old Trafford boss failed to get his fourth target in the summer as he went chasing Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

Now he is concerned he may not get the funds he needs to boost his squad in the New Year and next summer.

While United stand second in the league, they have fallen eight points behind noisy neighbours Manchester City at the top.

Mourinho’s men have reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and are virtually through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But Mourinho remains concerned about the strength in depth of his side, highlighted by injuries to the likes of £89m Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini, who only returned to action in Sunday’s defeat at Chelsea.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also not featured for United once this season.

The issues behind the scenes come at a time when French giants Paris Saint-Germain are trying to lure Mourinho.

The Portuguese is committed to United for now.

Mourinho has tried to balance the numbers with 16 first team squad players having left since his arrival but that has only recouped £56million.
The Atletico Madrid striker came close to joining last summer but the deal never went through.
Now he is being criticised by the board at the Vicente Calderon and could attract the interest of Mourinho again despite his enormous £175m release clause in his contract.

The Red Devils go into the international break on the back of a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
