Jack Butland gets England nod over Joe Hart for Germany clash as Gareth Southgate rolls dice on goalkeeper selection

Three Lions to hand Stoke ace a chance between sticks but West Ham loanee Hart likely to return for Brazil clash

JACK BUTLAND is set to be in goal for England against Germany tomorrow — heaping more pressure on Joe Hart.

The Stoke keeper, 24, will play in successive senior international games for the first time when he steps out against the Germans at Wembley, despite boss Gareth Southgate saying previously Hart was No 1.

Hart has struggled in a toiling West Ham side this season. And Southgate gave Butland a start in England’s final World Cup qualifier in Lithuania last month, which the visitors won 1-0.

However, Hart is likely to return between the sticks against Brazil on Tuesday.

England are set to play a front three of Jamie Vardy, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford against the Germans.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ Eric Dier hopes the upcoming friendlies can be the starting point for a successful tournament in Russia, saying: “Obviously a lot of improvement is needed. I would not say it is only the last two tournaments.

“It goes back quite a long way, to be honest, that England have not done well. People forget that.

“It has been a long time since England have had a good tournament. Winning is really the only way I see it as being successful.

“This is a new group which has come together since the Euros. It is a young group with lots of young faces and the margin for progression is huge. It is fantastic the other age groups have done so well this year.

“Winning tournaments is fantastic for the youth system and proves the plan in place is working.  It also puts more pressure on us to do well.”
