Watford captain Deeney grabbed Stoke midfielder Allen's face and neck, with match referee Michael Oliver showing a yellow card to both players.

Deeney has been since banned for three matches for violent conduct.

He missed the 3-2 defeat to Everton, and will also sit out the games against West Ham and Newcastle.

But he could return for the home clash with Manchester United on November 28.

The FA took action after video footage showed the striker wrapping his hands around Allen's face before gouging his cheek.

It even forced members of staff to leap from the bench to break things up.

Allen has since laughed off the incident, saying: "It was handbags really and there was nothing to it.

"I like Troy, he's one of the good guys, he's a really good player and it was nothing personal.

"He's a big guy and we were both laughing - I knew I was beaten in that situation, but I have a bit of a bad habit of picking the wrong fights!"

However, boss Mark Hughes saw it differently, adding: "Clearly we kicked the ball out and the right thing to do is throw it back. Deeney the captain should know better and Allen reacted.

"More often than not, these situations get revisited by people in authority and decisions are made as a consequence."
