MANCHESTER UNITED are far and away the top side in the Premier League shirt sales once again, while some of their rivals linger miles behind.

The Red Devils have flogged more jerseys at retailer Sports Direct than any of their top-flight competitors, with over double that of Arsenal.

Even if you put together the sales of shirts from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City combined, it would not total as many as United.

The Old Trafford outfit have taken a 32 per cent share in Sports Direct's jersey transactions across their UK stores.

In second place is their major rivals Liverpool on a 21 per cent share of the products.

Next up is Arsenal who are the third most popular, making up 15 per cent.

And they are followed closely behind by their London neighbours Chelsea (10 per cent) and Tottenham (eight per cent).

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashely's own team Newcastle - who could be sold as soon as this week - are on seven per cent.

Then behind them are runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City on four per cent, perhaps showing the gulf in popularity between the Manchester teams.

Behind them are West Ham with half of City's percentage and then Southampton with just one per cent.

Admittedly, fans could be choosing to purchase their jerseys from other places.

And while raw numbers have not been revealed by Sports Direct the popular bargain chain are a good barometer of numbers across the country.

Premier League shirts are available to purchase at SportsDirect.com.
