Liverpool ace Nathaniel Clyne declares back operation ‘successful’ as he targets first team comeback

NATHANIEL CLYNE has undergone "successful" surgery on his back... but still faces around three months on the sidelines.

The right-back has yet to feature for Liverpool this season after picking up an injury against Tranmere in pre season.

It has been a frustrating second half of the year for Clyne whose absence is seriously hampering his chances of a World Cup call up.

But the 26-year-old is finally on the road to recovery and is expected to make a return to first team action in February.

He wrote on Twitter: "Frustrating period for me but hopefully now things are on the up!

"Had a small & successful op and working hard to get back on the pitch."

Clyne was an integral figure under Jurgen Klopp last season having played in all but one of Liverpool's league campaign.

The German gaffer has been forced to rotate Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold to fill the void but Liverpool's defence has come under increasing scrutiny.

Earlier this month Klopp revealed Clyne took a step back in recovery after returning to training.

He said: "He was in a good way, running with high intensity, stuff like this. But the muscle showed a little reaction.

"That was not an injury, and usually with a healthy and fit player you wouldn’t even think about it.

"But in his case, because it was a little sign again from the back, we took him out and it’s a few steps back again."
