Alberto Moreno puts new lease of life down to Liverpool’s new nutritionist… and no cake and ice cream before games
The Spaniard was expected to be shipped out in the summer, but has fought off competition to nail down the left-back spot
ALBERTO MORENO has revealed the secret behind saving his Liverpool career - and it's all down to the club's nutritionist.
The Spanish left-back was expected to be shipped out of Merseyside this summer, with the club having signed Andy Robertson from Hull in a £10m deal.
James Milner, who was first choice for Jurgen Klopp in the position last season, was also expected to be ahead of Moreno in the pecking order.
But the 25-year-old has knuckled down, and while you wouldn't say he has "starred" for the Red so far, he has certainly not let anyone down.
And it's all down to the club's new nutritionist, Mona, putting an end to cake and ice cream.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Moreno said: "People talk a lot about how the food is bad in England but there’s good produce here too and you can eat well. And with Mona the food is very good.
"We have really noticed the change.
"The day before [games] there used to be ice creams and cakes, which isn’t good for footballers."

Mona was signed by Klopp from Bayern Munich in 2016.
With Robertson and Milner watching on from the sidelines, Moreno has featured in 15 games for Liverpool this season.

And the rejuventated Sevilla-born defender believes a more "hands-on" approach from Klopp is paying dividends.
He added: "Klopp is such an emotional presence, he can’t just stand there watching. He always takes part, he always intervenes.
"And he has got more hands-on with me this season. Last season he wasn’t picking me because [James] Milner was playing and the team was playing well.
"I went to see him a few times and he said 'Alberto, you’re doing okay but I can’t change the team'.
‘This season I’m a starter and he is closer to me. He corrects my mistakes, he improves me more.
"I’m much happier than I was last season."
