Manchester United star Marcus Rashford reveals his childhood hero was… American goalkeeper Tim Howard
MANCHESTER UNITED star Marcus Rashford has revealed his childhood hero was... American goalkeeper Tim Howard.
While many young strikers tip their cap to the likes of Eric Cantona or Ronaldo, England star Rashford, 20, has a slightly more obscure footballing idol.
The United youngster claimed he was always a fan of Howard - who played for the Old Trafford club between 2003 and 2006, prior to his long stint at Everton.
Rashford was such a fan of the 121-cap USA international, he even occasionally threw on the gloves for his youth team, Fletcher Moss Rangers.
United ace Rashford bizarrely revealed all to the Sunday Times, saying: "My first season [at Fletcher Moss] I went in the net.
"The thrill of scoring a goal, you get the same thrill when you save a good chance.
"Howard was my idol. I used to have a little Tim Howard shirt."
Rashford even joked he'd happily step in for David De Gea should the opportunity arise.

He added: "You watch, there'll be a game [when he is called upon to go in goal].
"I'm going to get the gloves one day!"

Rashford started for Man United on Saturday, as Jose Mourinho's men battled from 1-0 down to beat Newcastle 4-1.
However, it was Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who stole the headlines as they returned to first-team action.
Pogba was influential in the result, picking up a goal and an assist in the thumping at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic made his first appearance in seven months following ACL injury... before calling himself a "lion" for returning so quickly.
