Moreno's partner Lilia gave birth to the couple's second child at 2:30am on Saturday morning, Alberto Moreno Jnr.

The Kop defender took to Instagram to share his joy describing his partner as “my warrior” before declaring “we are one more red in the world”.

And Klopp, speaking after his side’s impressive 3-0 win over the Saints apologised to Lilia for the defender’s absence.

He said: “Alberto could have scored (against Southampton) and that would have been fantastic.

“He was not there, he was in the hotel and when he woke up this morning we asked if there was news and he said 'yes, he arrived'.

“He was in the (team) hotel (when he was born)… sorry!”

After a string of poor displays, Moreno looked to be heading for the Anfield exit last summer.

But the 25-year-old has enjoyed a upturn in his form and has been given an extended run in the side.

The birth of his son and three points ended a memorable week for Moreno after he made his first appearance for Spain in three years in their 3-3 draw with Russia on Tuesday.
