The Toffees currently have David Unsworth in charge but banned midfielder Joey Barton insists he is too overweight to manage a football team.

Watford boss Marco Silva is high on the agenda but will be expensive and the Liverpool Echo say LVG will only return to the Premier League for a top-four side.

Despite his impressive medal collection and CV, the former Ajax and Barcelona man introduced stale football at Old Trafford and was axed just moments after winning the 2016 FA Cup.

The 66-year-old has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in May 2016 but is still holding out for a lofty return.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been linked with the Everton job after sustained success with the Clarets on a modest budget,  but early target Sam Allardyce has appeared to rule himself out of the running due to delays in the contract talks.

The next permanent Everton manager has a tricky task ahead of him with an expensive array of playmakers but a desperate lack of pace in defence and attack.

Despite his ruthless axing, the veteran boss has returned to the north of England twice in the last five weeks to work on Dutch TV.

The price on LVG getting the Goodison gig tumbled at the start of the week but it seems he is another name to be crossed off the rapidly shrinking shortlist.
