Francis Coquelin comes within inches of breaking incredible unwanted record which stands at 156 games without a goal for Arsenal

Fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations with his performance following the Gunners' embarrassing defeat

FRANCIS COQUELIN came within inches of finally ending a remarkable unwanted record.

The Arsenal midfielder almost broke his goal drought when he cannoned the outside of the post in their Europa League defeat at Koln.

It means his extraordinary run for the Gunners without scoring has now extended to 156 games.

And to put that into context it is more than any other outfield player since Arsene Wenger was appointed manager in 1996.

The 26-year-old broke free of the defence in the 30th minute but couldn't find the right angle on the shot as the ball ricocheted off the upright and out for a goal kick.

You have to go back to the 2010-11 campaign when Coquelin scored his one and only professional goal whilst on loan at French side Lorient.

And it appears Arsenal fans have lost patience in the Frenchman as they took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at his overall performance.

One fan wrote: "Francis Coquelin is the second worst footballer I have ever witnessed try to play football."
