The Telegraph report that Hughes is ready to ditch Adam and Johnson.

And that would leave Peter Crouch, 36, as one of just three senior British players, alongside Ryan Shawcross and Darren Fletcher.

Both players are said to be on £40,000, with Johnson having signed a new one-year deal in April.

However, the former England right-back has not made the cut for Hughes' squad for Stoke's last four games.

And Scottish playmaker Adam has only got on for two minutes of Prem action so far this season.

Crouch has signed a new one-year deal, with the Potters struggling for Prem goals.

His current deal ran until the end of the season but Hughes has moved to secure the targetman, who they signed from Spurs for £10million in 2011, until the end of next season.

Hughes said: “Peter has been with Stoke longer than he has been with any other club which I think speaks volumes for how he views us and how we view him.

“He still has so much to offer us. He may be 36 but he continues to have a major impact on games, as he has proved on numerous occasions this season.”
