CARLOS TEVEZ has been ordered to return to Shanghai Shenhua by December 26... or lose his massive £615,000-a-week wages.

The Chinese Super League club have revealed they don't know whether the Argentine star, 33, will return or not, but must do so this month or face the axe.

Tevez has been linked with a move back to South American numerous times this year - with Shenhua saying the decision is now in the player's hands.

Shanghai Shenhua spokesman Ma Yue revealed: "We have informed him that he would have to return to the squad on December 26.

"But whether he will come back or not, it depends on his own decision."

Late last month, the club had already claimed: "Tevez will decide whether to stay or leave.

"His future hinges on the decision made by himself instead of Shenhua Football Club.

"Tevez's attitude, of which Shenhua have no control, will have a direct bearing on his performance.

"In other words, even if Shenhua really want to keep him at the club and see him play well, Tevez still has the final say.

"It is true that we have received bids from other clubs to buy Tevez, but Shenhua hope he express his true feelings first... otherwise all efforts will go in vain.

"Shenhua have no chance of selling Tevez to a club where he doesn't want to join."

While reports have suggested all year Tevez will return to South America, the player's agent, Adrian Ruocco, says he's going nowhere.

Responding to rumours about a move to Palmeiras, Ruocco said: "There is nothing [with Palmeiras]. It's all false.

"No one from Palmeiras spoke to me. Tevez will stay in China."
