Wayne Rooney reveals how West Ham wonder goal was scored as he relives magnificent Everton hat-trick

The striker scored a 61 yard stunner and has now explained just how the effort found the back of the net

WAYNE ROONEY has explained exactly how he scored his “perfect” wonder goal against West Ham.

Rooney hit a hat-trick in last month’s 4-0 Goodison thrashing — including an incredible 61-yarder.

It drew immediate comparisons with ex-Manchester United star David Beckham’s famous 59-yarder against Wimbledon.

And the Everton star admits out of all his 333 goals for club and country it is the one he is “most pleased with.”

It rivals his incredible bicycle kick goal that won the Manchester derby in February, 2011 — voted by fans as the best ever Premier League goal.

Rooney previously claimed that was his “most important ever goal” — but this one might just beat it.

Rooney revealed: “I caught it perfect. It is one of my best goals — in my top two, certainly.

“That’s the one which I’ve been most pleased with as I knew what I wanted to do and I executed it perfectly.

“I didn’t want to send it too high and give the defenders or goalkeeper the chance of getting back.

“So I knew if I could keep it low but high enough to get it over the keeper and defenders they would have no chance.

“The ball is coming to you and you know what you want to do and how to execute it, but you don’t always get the right connection. It was the best I’ve ever connected with, the way I wanted to with a football.”

Last week’s penalty at Liverpool was also a vital one.

Rooney revealed: “I’d missed a penalty against West Ham but I practised that penalty the day before and knew where I was going.

“With that one you are banking on the goalkeeper diving and I caught it clean. It was important for us not to get beaten at Anfield.”
