The Armenian enjoyed a strong start to the season, but his form has dipped alarmingly and he has not even made the bench for the last six United games.
The 28-year-old has not been seen since the home win against Brighton last month and now Inter could be set to end his Old Trafford nightmare, according to Corriere della Sport.
Mkhitaryan’s agent Mino Raiola has been told he can move his client to Italy next month.
The Serie A giants are said to be working on offloading players to finance the deal for the playmaker, who looks to have no future in Manchester.
Inter could sell Portuguese star Joao Mario to either Paris Saint-Germain or United, who have been linked with a possible swap deal with Mkhitaryan.
Mario helped Portugal win Euro 2016 but his place at the World Cup in Russia next summer is under threat after a lack of game time in Italy this season.

But the move looks to have gone sour as Jose Mourinho and the player were invloved in a row during a video analysis session in front of the United first-team squad.
