Former Celtic and Manchester United star Liam Miller has a ‘big fight on his hands’ as he continues to battle cancer says John Hartson

Football pals of the former star revealed last month the 36-year-old was battling the disease and that he was returning from the USA for chemotherapy

LIAM MILLER has a 'big fight on his hands' as he battles cancer, John Hartson has said.

Football pals including ex-Hibs ace Tam McManus and BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton rallied round the Irishman.

He reportedly flew back home last month for chemotherapy after having treatment in the USA.

But now Hartson has confirmed his former team-mate still had a "big fight on his hands".

Providing an update on Twitter, Hartson said: "Just off the phone to Liam Miller.

Miller came through the youth ranks at Celtic before leaving for Manchester United in 2004.

The Irishman spent five years in English football, and it was during this time that he won 21 caps playing for the Republic of Ireland.

Miller returned to Scotland to sign for Hibs in 2009.

He most recently played for American side Wilmington Hammerheads and had been studying for his Uefa training licence.

Hartson -who beat testicular cancer in 2009 after it had spread to his lungs and brain - was among the first people from the football world to rally round Miller after the news broke.
