Liverpool ‘to sign Leon Goretzka on free transfer from Schalke after beating Arsenal and Tottenham to his coveted signature’
German midfielder out of contract at the end of the season and is set to announce his next destination
LIVERPOOL are reportedly set to win the race to sign Leon Gortezka on a free transfer next summer.
German outlet Bild claims Jurgen Klopp has pulled off another transfer coup just days after beating Manchester City to Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool set a new world record when they agreed to hand over £75million for the Southampton defender.
But the books are sure to even out if they do manage to secure dynamic Schalke playmaker Goretzka for nothing.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the Bundesliga’s best young players, although some serious injuries have slightly stunted his development.
Arsenal and Tottenham were both strongly interested in bringing Goretzka to the Premier League.

But it's now being said that he is heading to Anfield and will make an announcement shortly.
It means Liverpool would have two midfielders arriving next summer, with Naby Keita already snapped up from RB Leipzig.

It would also make Goretzka the second Schalke player to leave for Anfield on a free transfer in recent years, with Joel Matip making the change 18 months ago.
Meanwhile, additional reports claim Daniel Sturridge is being lined up for a January loan move to struggling Southampton.
