Mesut Ozil, also 29, is another free to leave the Emirates at the end of the season having rejected a new deal.

But Arsene Wenger, speaking ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash against Chelsea, said: "We have not been contacted by anyone.

"This club has lost many big players and responded well.

"But you want to keep your best players. I want them to stay. Why should I be scared?

Arsenal are expected to go back in for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar having failed with a £91m bid on deadline day, while Leicester's Riyad Mahrez has also been linked with a transfer.

But Wenger denied targeting Chelsea centre-back David Luiz.

The Frenchman added: "We are out there to do some things, but when is hard to say, it is not dependent on us.

"We are open in any position for an exceptional player, it depends on injuries as well, and if we manage to extend contracts of players whose deals end in June."

Tomorrow's London derby at home to Chelsea is a perfect chance for Arsenal to get one over on a top-four rival.

The Blues are third and seven points ahead of fifth-placed Gunners.

The Gunners boss is also sweating on the fitness of Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny.

He said: "We lost Kolasinac, Koscielny in the game [at West Brom].

"The two who have a little chance... Ozil might have a test this morning. Koscielny is 30-70 available."
