Mavididi was left out of the Lilywhites' squad in their 3-2 defeat against Middlesbrough on New Year's Day, and is due to link up with Karl Robinson's men until the end of the season.

According to the Evening Standard, talks were ongoing between the Gunners and Charlton on Tuesday, with the ex-MK Dons boss revealing his side are close to announcing a signing.

He said of the potential new recruit: "He is a good player — proven at this level. He will excite people.

"He is a semi-striker in some ways. He can play up there, behind the striker or wide.
