JOSE MOURINHO has "a feeling" he can land Alexis Sanchez but is wary of Manchester United's rivals poaching the Arsenal superstar.
The Old Trafford chief was asked about the pursuit after his side brushed aside Stoke.
And while not giving away too much, he hinted he was fairly confident of pipping Manchester City and Chelsea in the race to sign Sanchez.
Mourinho, 54, said: "I am not confident but I am not unconfident. I am just relaxed. He is an Arsenal player, he can stay there.
"But I have a feeling he can move and if he moves I think we have a chance.
"Other big clubs are probably interested. Who knows."
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been linked with a United exit this window and could be used as a makeweight in any Sanchez deal.
And after dropping the Armenian for the Stoke game, Mourinho admitted the ex-Dortmund winger could be off.
He told Sky Sports: "He's a player that I like, of high quality.
"Is he going to be involved in one deal in leaving us? It's possible. But it's also possible that he stays.
"I'm just trying to protect him and the team, so let's make sure he stays with us or that he leaves us. The market is open."
