West Brom in talks with Bournemouth over £1million signing of defender Marc Wilson after successful loan spell

The versatile defender has been left out of The Cherries pre-season with a return move to The Hawthorns pending

WEST BROM are closing in on Marc Wilson who would cost around £1million from Bournemouth after his loan spell.

After failing to cement his position in The Cherries line-up, it is looking likely that The Baggies could secure their second signing of the summer.

Following the signing of England international Jay Rodriguez from Southampton for £14m, Tony Pulis looks to supplement that signing by bringing in some defensive cover.

It may not be a record-breaking bid from The Baggies, but the 29-year-old offers versatility, experience and he has history with Pulis.

The West Brom boss signed Wilson for Stoke City in 2010, before he joined Bournemouth in August 2016 for an undisclosed fee - but he never played a Premier League game on the South Coast.

Pulis then re-signed the defender on loan in January 2017, allowing him to play the remainder of the league campaign under his management.

Wilson still has a year left on his Bournemouth contract, but Eddie Howe will be keen to secure the sale following a number of big-money arrivals at Dean Court.

The 29-year-old has been capped 25 times for the Republic of Ireland.

Wilson's ability to play anywhere across the back four could prove pivotal to The Baggies success next season.

The time has come at the Hawthorns where Pulis needs to spend serious money if he wishes to progress this year, rather than playing it safe and finishing mid-table, again.

Eddie Howe has left the defender out of his pre-season side, which continues to suggest that the transfer is imminent.
