Frank de Boer held ‘critical‘ talks with Crystal Palace boss Steve Parish after nightmare start left Dutchman looking vulnerable

FRANK DE BOER admits he has held "critical" talks with Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish but says he should only be judged after 10 games as Eagles boss.

The Dutchman is under pressure following a dreadful start to the season where Palace have lost all three league games and are yet to score a goal in the Premier League.

De Boer has also been blasted for his tactics that left his side exposed but the former Inter boss, who was sacked after only 85 days in charge of the Italian team, is defiant and says he will continue to "do it my way".

However, with Burnley up next on Sunday and then Southampton, before a nightmare triple-header against Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, he knows time is running out.

He said: "Normally you have 10 games to think 'this is the way we like to play'.

"We only had four pre-season games, three Premier League games and one cup game.

"We still have only played eight games. We can improve a lot in how we want to play.

"The stupid mistakes we have to get rid of, but I am convinced every week we are getting better."

De Boer also says it is completely normal for some managers to struggle when they first arrive at a new club and is unwilling to change his controversial tactics to suit.

He added: "It is a project and you don't suddenly throw this overboard when you have a bad start.

"I remember for example Louis Van Gaal when he started at Bayern Munich. He didn't win the first few games and then he was a Champions League finalist.

"Giovanni Van Bronckhorst lost seven games with Feyenoord. He won the cup that year and the next year the title.

"Suddenly it can change very quickly. Pep Guardiola lost his first two games when he started and everyone thought 'What is he doing?'

"Suddenly the players didn't understand and the puzzle fell together and they got good results.

"I'm convinced if we do what we can do that it is going to be a very long time that I am here."

However, a lot of that depends on the next two crunch games after de Boer revealed he had a two-hour meeting with Parish this week to discuss the club's poor start.

And he will face another tough fixture this weekend as Wilfried Zaha remains sidelined while Mamadou Sakho is not yet match fit.

He said: "I have a good relationship with the board and with Steve the chairman. We know what we want to achieve and I have the confidence that the results will come.

"In the meeting, we are very critical to each other but what we discuss stays inside.

"We are always fair to each other and at the end when we leave the room we have only one thought.

"I tell him what we are going to do. My bottle is half full and I had the confidence before I signed a contract.

"We want to be a stable Premier League club."
