EAGLES NEST EGG

Roy Hodgson set for £1million Crystal Palace survival bonus if he keeps rock-bottom Eagles in the Premier League

ROY HODGSON will pocket a £1million Crystal Palace bonus if he can pick up the pieces of Frank de Boer’s disaster and keep them in the Premier League, according to reports.

After Sam Allardyce rejected a return to the Eagles, Hodgson was thrown a managerial lifeline after the humiliation of heading England’s Euro 2016 exit to Iceland.

And the Mail reports the offer a two-year contract worth £2.5m-per-season is being sweetened by a hefty extra windfall if the 70-year-old can keep them up.

Despite banned midfielder Joey Barton sticking the boot into Hodgson over his Three Lions reign and his perceived personality, Palace are confident he is the latest man to save them.

Tony Pulis reportedly banked £2m for keeping the Selhurst Park side up in 2014 before walking out and sparking an ugly court case.

And Allardyce trousered a similar amount when he kept the club up – when they looked doomed – with a number of shrewd signings last season.

Palace chairman Steve Parish axed de Boer after the opening four Premier League games returned zero points and goals.

However, the decision maker must take some blame for appointing a former Ajax and Inter Milan head coach to manage in a Premier League relegation scrap.

The 1-0 defeat to Burnley was the final straw and Palace’s announcement was almost as short as de Boer’s Prem career, they said: “Crystal Palace Football Club have this morning parted company with Frank de Boer.

"We would like to thank Frank for his dedication and hard work during his time at the club.

"A new manager will be appointed in due course and we wish Frank the very best of luck for the future.

"There will be no further comment at this time."

Allardyce was then approached by Palace – just months after he quit the club to enjoy his retirement – and rejected the chance to return.

The ex-England boss said: “I spoke to Steve late this afternoon and said you know, for me, I would not be ready to come back.

“I’ve made the decision and I would not feel comfortable at this time. I’m not ready to take on a new position.
